What this tool does
Saves one scene of a video as an image, or takes images from a chosen range at a steady interval and saves them as a ZIP. Useful for making thumbnails or collecting scenes.
Steps
Saving just one
- Upload a video, play it and pause at the scene you want.
- Set the width and output format and press "Save current frame as image".
Taking many from a range
- Set Start/End (sec) by typing or with the "Use current position as start" / "Use current position as end" buttons.
- Set "Frames per second", the width and the output format. The number to take and the output size are shown below.
- Press "Extract range" and thumbnails appear. Save them with "Download all as ZIP" or send them to the workbench.
Settings
- Frames per second: choose from 0.2, 0.5, 1, 2, 5, 10. The count is (range length x this value) rounded down, plus 1, at least 1.
- Width: initially the video's width as is. The height follows the ratio.
- Output format and quality: PNG has no quality loss. JPG and WebP let you set the quality. JPG has no transparency, so it is saved with a white background.
How it works
It moves the video to each time in the chosen range, draws the picture at that moment on an output-size canvas and encodes it as an image in the chosen format. Times are the start plus steps of the interval (1 ÷ frames per second), limited so they do not go past the video end. File names are "videoname_4digitnumber_times.extension".
Good to know
- You can take at most 300 at once. If more, shorten the range or lower the number per second.
- Only the first 60 thumbnails are shown on screen; saving includes all of them.
- The scene taken is the picture at a position the browser can seek to, so it may differ very slightly from the requested time.
- Video formats the browser cannot play cannot be read.
- Results are gone when you close the tab.
