What this tool does
Splits every frame of a GIF into an image, and saves only the frames you pick as PNG, JPG or WebP.
Steps
- Upload a GIF file.
- Check the frames to save in the thumbnails. You can use the "Select all", "Select none" and "Invert" buttons.
- Choose the output format. For JPG or WebP set the quality, and for JPG the background color that fills transparent areas.
- Press "Save selected frames". One frame is saved as that image; several are saved as a ZIP file.
Settings
- Frame thumbnails: each cell shows #number and the time (seconds) that frame is displayed, and all are checked at first.
- Output format and quality: PNG has no quality loss and no quality setting. JPG and WebP show a quality slider.
- Background color: appears only for JPG and fills transparent parts.
How it works
Every frame of the GIF is unpacked into a finished full picture composed with the previous frames, and the selected frames are encoded at their original size in the chosen format. Saved file names are "originalname_framenumber.extension", where the frame number starts at 1 and has at least 4 digits.
Good to know
- With no frames selected the save button is disabled.
- A GIF with very many frames takes time to unpack, and one whose frames together exceed the memory limit (about 700MB) cannot be opened.
- When several are saved the ZIP file is named "originalname_frames.zip".
- Results are gone when you close the tab.
