Icon (ICO) Converter
Upload an image to build an ICO containing the sizes you choose, or upload an ICO to extract its icons as PNG by size.
Each size inside the ICO is stored as PNG (supported by modern browsers and Windows Vista or later). 16, 32 and 48 px are enough for a favicon.
How to use
- Upload an image (or an ICO file).
- For images choose the sizes to include; for ICO check the preview of each size inside.
- Save as ICO or as PNG (ZIP).

What this tool does
Upload an image to make an icon (ICO) file with several sizes, or upload an ICO file to extract the icons inside as PNGs by size. Use it for website favicons or Windows program icons.
Steps - make an ICO from an image
- Drop an image or click to upload it. An almost square image such as a logo works best.
- Check the icon sizes to include. The defaults are 16, 32, 48 and 256.
- If the image is not square choose how to fit it under "Non-square images". Check the result in the previews by size.
- Press "Download ICO". To get the PNGs separately press "Get PNG by size (ZIP)".
Steps - extract PNGs from an ICO
- Upload an .ico file. The icons inside are listed by size.
- Save them one by one with each cell's "PNG" button, or get all with "Get PNG by size (ZIP)".
Settings
- Sizes to include: a square PNG is made for each checked size and packed into one ICO. 16, 32 and 48 are enough for a favicon.
- Non-square images: "Fit whole image" places the whole image and leaves the rest transparent. "Fill and crop" fills the square and crops the overflow around the center.
How it works
A square canvas is made for each selected size, the image is drawn on it and encoded as PNG, and the results are joined in the ICO file structure (header, entry list, image data). Each entry's image is stored as PNG as is, and 256px is written as size value 0 as the ICO format requires. When reading an ICO, each image is taken following the entry list; PNG entries are used as is, and old BMP entries are repackaged as a one-entry ICO so the browser can decode them.
Good to know
- Each size inside the ICO is stored as PNG, which is supported by modern browsers and Windows Vista and later.
- Only one file can be uploaded at a time.
- Your work is gone when you close the tab.
