GIF/Video Pixelate & Blur
Drag up to 10 areas to hide on a GIF or video, set a frame range for each and save. GIFs are saved as GIF and videos as video. For still images use the Pixelate & Blur page.
Press [+] to add an area at the top left of the image, or drag on an empty spot of the preview (up to 10). New areas start at the frame you are viewing. Drag inside an area to move it; drag the corners of the selected area to resize. Faded areas (not applied to the current frame) cannot be edited. Click an area name in the list to jump to its first frame, and use "Set current frame as area start" to move its start to where you are.
Video is re-recorded while it plays with the effect applied, so it takes as long as the selected range. Do not close or switch away from this tab while it runs. Video cannot be sent to the workbench.
How to use
- Upload a GIF or video.
- Check frames with the slider and the −/+ buttons, drag the areas to hide and enter a frame range for each. Drag an area to move it, or drag its corners to resize.

What this tool does
Applies pixelate, blur or a solid color to the parts of a GIF or video you want. You can make up to 10 areas and set a frame range for each, so you can cover only the part where a person moves. A GIF is saved as a GIF; a video is saved as a video (MP4 or WebM) or a GIF.
Steps
- Upload a GIF or video.
- Move through frames with the slider and the −/+ buttons to find the scene to cover.
- Drag on the preview to make an area, or add one with the [+] button. Drag an area to move it and use its corners to resize.
- In the list set the start and end frame for each area. Initially it is from the current frame to the end.
- Choose the method, strength and area shape.
- For a video set the range to convert, frames per second, save format and quality. You can also set the width and the number of colors for GIF.
- Press "Make video" or "Make GIF", depending on the selected output format, check the result, then press "Download".
Settings
- Method and strength: pixelate is the block size (px), blur is the amount of blur, solid color is the chosen color. The method and strength apply equally to all areas.
- Area shape: rectangle or ellipse. It only applies to areas made afterwards; existing areas do not change.
- Frame range per area: set with the numbers in the list (counted from 1, both ends included). An area that does not apply to the current frame looks faded in the preview and cannot be handled.
- Range to convert (video): the start frame, end frame and frames per second decide what goes in the result. Changing the frames per second recalculates the area ranges to the same moments.
- Save format (video): video (MP4 or WebM) or GIF. For video you choose the quality and whether to include the original sound.
- Width: 0 means the original size, and it cannot be larger than the original.
How it works
For each frame, only the areas that apply to that frame are used and the effect is applied inside the area shape. Pixelate shrinks the area to the block size and enlarges it without smoothing, blur softens using pixels outside the area too, and solid color fills with the chosen color. A GIF gets the effect on every frame and is encoded as a new GIF; a video saved as GIF is captured at a steady interval and encoded. When a video is saved as video, it is played while the effected picture (and the original sound) is recorded again with the browser's recording feature, so it takes as long as the chosen range.
Good to know
- For still images use the "Pixelate & Blur" page. A GIF uploaded there is sent to this page.
- Do not close this tab or switch to another tab while a video is being saved. A result saved as video cannot be sent to the workbench.
- If the frames of the GIF or video exceed the memory limit or the range is too long (over 60 seconds for GIF conversion, over 300 seconds for saving as video), it cannot be made.
- The result file is named "originalname_blur.gif", or .mp4, .webm.
- Results are gone when you close the tab.
